Mildred Leon Stanfield of Eureka, died on Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Wesley Medical Center, in Wichita, at the age of 80.
She was born on August 12, 1930, in Topeka, the daughter of Calvin and Marie (Felton) Hull. She was raised in Yates Center and graduated from Yates Center High School with the class of 1949. Later she attended Emporia State University. On December 27, 1953, Mildred was united in marriage to Val Gene “Stan” Stanfield in Eureka, where they made their home. To this union, three children were born.
Mildred was a lifelong seamstress, and was always very active in her church. She was a member of the Order of the Easter Star, Magic Circle Quilter’s Guild, and the United Methodist Women.
She is survived by two children: son, Kim and wife, Julie Stanfield of Houston, Texas; and daughter, Koleen and husband, Brian Laney of El Dorado; daughter-in-law, Glenda Stanfield of Moran; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond and wife, Mary Hull of Chanute; and Donald and wife, Nettie Hull of Franklin, Louisiana; one sister, Joyce Chambers of Humboldt; and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Brian, one brother, Gerald; and one sister, Phyllis.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, March 24, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church in Eureka, with Pastor Kenneth Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Mildred Stanfield Memorial Fund of Children in Need. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
