Mildred Eleanor Brenton was born on February 21, 1922 in Eureka, Kansas. She was the 2nd child of Edgar M. and Alice Irene (Giffin) Brenton. Mildred joined her heavenly father on February 15, 2011.
Mildred spent all her life in Eureka except for 2 years spent on a farm near Climax, KS. She attended Eureka schools, graduating from Eureka High School with the class of 1941.
On March 23, 1946 Mildred married Wesley L. French. To this union on son, Jerry Lynden, was born.
Mildred or “Millie” as she was known by family and friends worked at Greenwood Creamery for five years. From 1959 thru 1972 she was a General Motors accountant for Eureka Motor Company.
On May 13, 1966 Millie married Charles William “Bill” Blakeslee of Eureka.
In 1972 she went to work as secretary for Eureka High School where she continued to work until her retirement at the close of the 1985/86 school year.
Mildred was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Eureka where she served on many committees, served as UMW group leader for many years as well as chairperson of Administrative Council.
Millie is survived by her son Jerry; his wife, Jeannette; grandsons, Jim and Jon (Tenley) French; and granddaughter, Joy French; three great grandchildren, Denae, Dahlia, and Davis French; two brothers Frank (Liz) Brenton and Harold (Mary) Brenton; friend, Ed Hawthorne, niece, Rhonda Boone; great niece Raegan Boone; great nephew, Isaac Boone; other nephews and nieces; and a host of relatives and friends.
Millie was preceded in death by two husbands and two sisters, Charlene McMullen and Helen Hampshire.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, February 18, 2011, at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Reverend Kenneth Baker of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Eureka. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
