Merle Arbutus Reeder died December 30, 2003, at Susan B. Allen Hospital in El Dorado, Kansas, at the age of 91.

Merle was born September 27, 1912 in Monroe County, Indiana, to William and Clara (Kindle) Whetstone. The family moved to Keighley, Kansas when she was five, then to El Dorado. Merle graduated from El Dorado High School with the class of 1932.

On July 7, 1933, Merle was united in marriage to Emmett "Mutt" Reeder in Cottonwood Falls. He preceded her in death on March 15 1994. They lived in El Dorado, Newton, and Wichita, before settling in Eureka in 1947, where together they ran Reeder Refuse Service. They retired in 1976. Merle was a member of Easter Star, Queen Bess Chapter 56 and attended Climax Methodist Church.

As her health began to fail, Merle moved to Augusta in 2001. Merle is survived by a daughter, Pat Pierce of Augusta, Kansas.

Graveside services will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, January 3, at Greenwood Cemetery, with Reverend Don Harper of the Climax United Methodist Church officiating. A memorial has been establish to the Climax United Methodist Church.
