May Engelina Vander Meyden of Severy, died on Monday, August 28, 2006, at Medicalodge in Eureka, at the age of 96.
She was born on April 30, 1910, in Sliedircht, Holland, the daughter of Martin Baan and Derridje de Groot (Hofman). She was raised in Holland, and finished her education at a preparatory school in Holland.
On September 24, 1931, she was united in marriage in Dirk Vander Meyden in Holland. The family moved to the United States in 1947, living in South Dakota, while Dirk worked in construction. They lived in Kansas City and Wichita, before eventually moving to Severy, where they purchased a farm. Dirk preceded her in death on April 27, 1979.
May is survived by two sons, Cornelius “Case” Vander Meyden of Severy; and Dick Vander Meyden of Cortez, Colorado; and one ex-daughter-in-law, Peggy; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, September 1, 2006 at Twin Grove Cemetery in Severy, with Pastor Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church of Eureka, officiating.
