Matthew Rodger Hunt of Eureka, Kansas, died on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at the Greenwood County Hospital, in Eureka, at the age of 69.
He was born on December 3, 1950, in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Ralph, Jr. and Jeanne Marie (Marconett) Hunt. Ralph is a Pastor and the family lived in various places during Matthew’s formative years including Ottawa, Fairview, and Valley Center. Matthew graduated from Valley Center High School with the Class of 1968.
On November 3, 1973, he was united in marriage to Shelley Kathryn Shippy in Wichita. They made their home in Ottawa. To this union, two children were born. The family later moved to Denver and later Minneapolis. Matthew was a businessman and after returning to Wichita, always owned a business. He owned and operated E.L.F. Children’s Center in Wichita for over 25 years.
Matthew was more than an avid fisherman, he wove a love of fishing into the fabric of his entire family.
He is survived by his wife, Shelley of the home; sons, Brady J. and wife, Leslie Hunt of Wichita; and Taylor Hunt of Eureka; father, Ralph Hunt, Jr. of Wichita; two grandchildren: Gillian and Keane Hunt; and siblings: Jane and husband, Rod Baker of Wichita; and Dan Hunt of El Dorado. He was preceded in death by his mother.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Sunday, July 12, 2020 at Barrier-Ladd Cemetery, Eureka. Cremation has been effected. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Children’s Mercy Hospital. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O.
