Mary Edna Martin, formerly of Toronto, Kansas, died at Life Care Center in Andover, Kansas, on August 12, 2010.
She was born in Salina, Kansas, on September 7, 1917, the daughter of John and Effie May (Norris) Elder. On August 8, 1935, Mary was united in marriage to Jack Clayburn Martin in Wichita, Kansas. They were married for 67 years, spending most of those years in the Wichita area, and retiring to Toronto in 1985. Jack preceded her in death on October 27, 2003.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Toronto, and in her younger years was an active member of the Eastern Star.
Mary is survived by one son; Larry Martin and his wife Ginger of Camdenton, Missouri, one daughter; Linda Rapoza of Phoenix, Arizona, five grandchildren, one step-grandchild, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, and two sisters; May Wasser of Derby, Kansas, and Betty Tapley of Haysville, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, three sisters, and one step-grandson.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, August 19, 2010, at the Toronto Cemetery, Toronto, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made in her name to the Breast Cancer Society. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas, 67045, which is in charge of service arrangements.
