Mary L. Lewis
Mary Leanna Lewis of Eureka, died on Monday, January 5, 2015 at Galichia Heart Hospital in Wichita, at the age of 87.
She was born on November 22, 1927, in Stroud, Oklahoma the daughter of Elza Percy “EP” and Clemma (Black) Waltman. Shortly after her birth the family moved to Eureka where Mary attended school graduating from Eureka High School. After her schooling, she worked various jobs including Francis Plumbing, Babson College, and the Eureka School District. She loved her family, and her church. She was a fan of the Wichita Shockers and the Jayhawks. Mary enjoyed playing bridge, water skiing, and boating. She could even slalom ski backwards.
On April 21, 1946, she was united in marriage to D. Ladd Lewis at the First United Methodist Church, in Eureka.
She was a member of the Farm Bureau, Bridge Club, and the United Methodist Women’s group.
She is survived by her husband, Ladd of the home; daughter, Lynda and husband Laymon Burch of Mesa, Arizona; son, Larry and wife, Connie Lewis of Emporia; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-step-grandchild; brother, Perry Waltman of Newton; and sister, Maxine Osmundson of Eureka. She was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Harold “Sarge” Waltman, JB Waltman, and Glenn Waltman.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, January 9, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Eureka with Reverend Kenneth Baker officiating. Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation hours are set from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Thursday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
