Mary Adella George, of Eureka, died at Medicalodge of Eureka on Friday, January 25, 2008, at the age of 97.
She was born on October 24, 1910, in Stratton, Colorado, the daughter of Charlie and Maude (Vanetta) Lang. Her father was a traveling blacksmith and auctioneer, so during her childhood she traveled with her family throughout Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kansas.
On December 28, 1929, Mary was united in marriage to Thomas E. George, Sr. in El Dorado. Thomas worked for the railroad, so after their marriage they traveled with his job. In 1946, the family settled in Neal, Kansas, where they stayed until moving to Eureka in the early 1960’s. Thomas preceded her in death in February 1992.
Mary was a member of the Neal Methodist Church and was a homemaker.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas George, Jr. of Toronto, and Frank George of Cottonwood Falls; two daughters, Vessie Gulick of Eureka, and Margaret Wyer of Windom; eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, and four step great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Grace Williams, three grandsons, four brothers, two sisters, and two grandsons-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, January 28, 2008, at Koup Family Funeral Home with Pastor Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Neal Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in her name to the Medicalodge Activity and Christmas fund. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
