Mary Aline Benest

Mary “Aline” Benest, died on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at her home in Severy, at the age of 100.
She was born on March 6, 1908, in Elk County, the daughter of Marion and Margaret (Wilson) Speer. She was raised in Howard and attended local schools. She received her Normal Teacher Training from Pittsburg State Teachers College, and began teaching for a few years.
On March 2, 1933, Aline was united in marriage to Marvin Keith Benest in Newton. They spent many years on a farm south of Eureka. Marvin preceded her in death in 1990.
Aline was a homemaker, and a member of the Howard Church of Christ.
She is survived by one son, Gary Benest of Severy; one daughter, Kathy Robert of Emporia; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and three sisters.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 15, 2008, at South Lawn Cemetery, in Severy, with Pastor Dave Warren of the Severy Nazarene Church and Marty Taliaferro of Severy, Kansas officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Feed the Children or to the Maude Carpenter Children’s Home. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
