Mary Louise Abbey, of Virgil, died on Sunday, July 11, 2010, at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center, in Topeka, at the age of 81.
She was born on May 2, 1929, in San Antonio, Texas, the daughter of Girolomo and Mary Grace (Daura) Maspero. She was raised in San Antonio, and graduated from local schools. After her schooling she lived on the family farm and helped her mother around the house.
On February 18, 1967, Mary was united in marriage to Leonard Abbey, in San Antonio. They lived throughout Texas as Leonard worked for different road crews. In 1977, they moved to Yates Center, and then in 2007 moved to the farm near Virgil.
Mary was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Yates Center.
She is survived by her husband, Leonard of the home; two sons, Leonard Ray Abbey, III of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Stuart Jerome Abbey of Cherokee; one daughter, Mary Irene Abbey of Yates Center; four grandchildren; five brothers, Albert, Richard, Arthur, David, and Alfred Maspero, all of San Antonio, Texas; and one sister, Frances Maspero of San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 15, 2010, at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka, with Father Steve Gronert of Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiating. Interment will follow at Janesville Cemetery. A Rosary service will take place at 9:30 A.M., at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
