Marilyn Wegner of Eureka, KS, died Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at Eureka Nursing Center in Eureka, at the age of 79.
She was born October 12, 1937, in Greenwood County, KS, the daughter of George and Lily (Miller) Howald. She was raised in Greenwood County and attended local schools until she was ten years old. She was then enrolled in Enterprise Academy where she began the 9th grade. Marilyn graduated from Enterprise Academy at age 14, and then attended college in Lincoln, Nebraska. Following her schooling, she went to work for Samsonite, and later Russell Stover in Colorado. Marilyn was united in marriage to Bill Vickers, the marriage was later dissolved. On December 20, 1971, Marilyn was united in marriage to Pete Wegner in Denver, CO. To this union one daughter was born. The marriage later ended in divorce.
In 1974, Marilyn returned to Eureka, Kansas where she began a career at Greenwood County Hospital as a dietary aide. She held this position for 20 years, until she retired. She was very active in her church and loved to garden. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Eureka.
Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Andra Wegner of Eureka; and one grandson, Bryson Higbee-Wegner of Bremerton, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, April 17, 2017, at Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka, with Mr. Alan Purkeypile, and Pastor Francois Erasmus of the Seventh Day Adventist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka.
