Marilyn May “Mickey” Patterson, of Eureka, died on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital, in El Dorado, at the age of 70.
She was born on August 12, 1938, in Wichita, the daughter of Harold Francis Lafayette and Amelia May (Goodwin) Van Buskirk. She was raised in the Reece area and graduated from Eureka High School with the class of 1957.
On July 19, 1956, she was united in marriage to Fred Stuber in Eureka where they made their home. To this union three children were born. This marriage later ended in divorce.
Mickey was a homemaker and worked as a legal secretary for many years for Judge Jack Sanders and several county attorneys. On July 8, 1987, Mickey was united in marriage to Don Patterson. This marriage later ended in divorce. With Don, she managed many Motel 6 and Super 8 motels across the east, southeast, and Midwest United States. She was recognized as a Hurricane Hugo Hero for her work in the aftermath of that tragedy.
She is survived by one son, Freddy Stuber of El Dorado; two daughters, Cindy Fritts of Eureka; and Natalie Cline of Eureka; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Van Buskirk of Peabody; and Clyde Van Buskirk of Matfield Green; one sister, Myrtle Lorre Meadows of South Carolina; and one loving ex-husband, Don. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Harold.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka with Mr. Jayme A. Koup officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Mickey Patterson Funeral Fund. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
