Marie “Elizabeth” Jones, died at Medicalodge of Eureka, Kansas, Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at 90 years of age.
She was born at Mt. Washington, MO. on September 16, 1912 to Robert James and Clara May (Hedges) Jackson. She was second of a multiple birth.
She came to Eureka with her mother, brothers, and sister in May of 1920. She graduated from Eureka High School with the class of 1931 and attended the Wichita Business College for two years.
She married Fred E. Jones on September 12, 1940 in Eureka and they celebrated 53 years of marriage before his death in 1993.
She worked for the Bush Motor Company for eleven years and the Federal Land Bank Association of Eureka as bookkeeper-secretary for thirty-one years, retiring in 1977.
She is a member of the Eureka Country Club and had been secretary-treasurer and bookkeeper for 16 years, retiring in January 1994.
She has been organist at the First United Methodist Church since December 1951, belongs to the “Lamplighter Circle” of the Church, the Eureka Country Club, the Ladies Bridge and Golf Association, the American Legion Auxiliary #50, the Friends of the Library, and the Greenwood County Historical Society.
She leaves to mourn her passing two nephews and one niece.
She was preceded in death by her husband Fred, her parents, her brothers, Robert Rayburn, and James O. Jackson, and her sister Maxine Watkins.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, June 21, 2003 at Koup Family Funeral Home with Reverend Diana Hill of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials have been established in her name with the First United Methodist Church of Eureka, the Eureka Carnegie Library, the Greenwood County Historical Society, and the American Legion Auxiliary # 50.
