Margie Ann (Thomas) Lahar, of Great Bend, Kan., died on Friday, July 11, 2003 at the age of 49. She fought a long battle after being severely burned in an accident.
Margie was born in Henryetta, Okla., on March 24, 1954, the daughter of Raymon and Margaret (Scott) Thomas. She was raised in Henryetta with her two sisters and two brothers. Margie graduated from Henryetta High School. She attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, and later attained a bachelor’s of science in nursing from Langston University.
Margie married Raymond Lahar of Great Bend, Kan., in 2002. She moved to Kansas that year and worked as a nurse at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. She has worked as a nurse in Henryetta, Weleetka, Eufaula, and Wetumka in Oklahoma, mostly home-health and nursing home care. Before becoming a nurse in 1992, Margie worked for 13 years for Williams Pipeline at the Port of Muskogee.
Margie was a talented nurse who showed confidence and grace in caring for people. She loved talking to and comforting people, and had a wonderful sense of humor. She loved being outdoors, and loved to build – she could repair or build anything, and worked on restoring her home in Waleetka, originally built in 1902, for several years. Margie loved music, especially gospel and bluegrass and classic country and rock ‘n’ roll. Margie was surrounded by music and was never without a song playing on the stereo. She also loved to travel with her husband, Ray. Margie loved to read and learn new knowledge. Mostly Margie loved to spend time with her family, laugh and have a good time. Margie was a devoted mother, wife, and friend.
Margie is survived by her husband, Ray, of Great Bend; mother, Margaret Thomas, of Henryetta; daughter, Sarah, of Tulsa; son, Nicholas, of Oktaha; daughter Natalie Garrett of Collinsville; daughter Lila Garrett of Preston; her sister, Mary Johnson and her husband, Glen, of Henryetta; brother, Ransom Thomas and his wife, Pat, of Okmulgee; brother, Danny Thomas, and his wife, Judy, of Okmulgee; several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones.
Funeral services will be at Henryetta First Assembly of God on Monday, July 14, 2003 at 2 P.M., with Rev. Milton Gleghorn officiating. Interment will follow at Dustin Cemetery in Dustin, Okla.
