Margaret Dene Cain, of Eureka, died at Medicalodge of Eureka, on Sunday, March 2, 2008, at the age of 83.
She was born in Winchester, Virginia, on June 14, 1924, the daughter of Robert and Pearl (Dieffendoerfer) Striker. She was raised in Winchester and attended school there. Her early adult life was spent in Washington, D.C. working for a United States Senator from the State of Virginia. In the mid 1960’s, Margaret moved to Stockton, California and began her career with the Tracy County Army Defense Depot as an office worker. In the early 1980’s she retired as office manager, and moved to Eureka to be closer to her family.
Margaret was a member of the Methodist Church and the Toastmistress Association. She also graduated from Eureka Jr./Sr. High School with the class of 2004, when she was 80 years old.
She is survived by two sons, Stephen Taylor of Eureka; and Christopher West of California; one daughter, Sharon West of Eureka; seven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and two sisters.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Sunday, March 16, 2008, at Cattlemen’s Hill. Cremation has been effected.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Mid-Kansas Community Action Program. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
