Mae F. Shinkle-Liebau
Mae Frances Shinkle-Liebau died on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Select Specialty Hospital, in Wichita, at the age of 78.
She was born on July 12, 1936, in Hartford, Kansas, the daughter of Gilbert Daniel and Dorothy A. (Lore) Woods. She was raised in Wichita attending local schools. While there, she worked at the Orpheum Theater. Later the family moved to California where Mae graduated from local schools. After her schooling, Mae worked for Brach’s Pottery in California.
On June 5, 1959, Mae was united in marriage to Merle L. Shinkle in Eureka, where they made their home. To this union, three children were born. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1984. On December 22, 1993, Mae was united in marriage to Willis Liebau in Miami, Oklahoma. They made their home in Toronto.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka, EHU, and Artists in Action of Toronto.
She is survived by her husband, Willis of the home; daughter, Marilyn Hall of Eureka; son, Myron Shinkle of Emporia; and daughter, Melyta Roberts of Eureka; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; and one sister, Gaylene Ripley of Tyler, Texas; and one brother, Danny Woods of California. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother, Perry Lee Woods.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, November 7, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church of Eureka with Reverend Kenneth Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Eureka High School Art Department or to the Yates Center High School Art Department. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
