Lyle Duane Olson, 71, of Eureka, died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at his home Northwest of Eureka.
He was born January 22, 1932 north of Eureka to George James and Ollie Estelle (Brown) Olson. He attended Lapland Grade School and graduated from Eureka High School in 1949.
He entered the United States Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge Lyle farmed and ranched. He was awarded Young Master Farmer in 1968.
In 1970 he managed a Sonic Drive-In in Augusta and has been involved with Sonic for over 30 years. He served as a Salem Township Officer and Upper Fall River Rural Fire Volunteer for many years.
In 1960 Lyle married Dorothy (Duncan) Irwin in Eureka. They had two daughters Jill and Cara. In 1975 he married Joyce (Kiser) Moore in Wichita.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ollie, his stepmother Beulah, brother, Theodore James (Buddy) Olson, and sister Joan Olson Harding.
Survivors include wife Joyce of the home, daughters, Jill Olson Shryock of Augusta, and Cara Evenson and husband Preston, stepsons, Butch Moore of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Terry Moore of Anadarko, Oklahoma, stepdaughters, Deanna Mental of Lompoc, California, and Leisa Irwin of Navato, California, sisters, Eleanor Adams of Beloit and Melba Sue Asher of Wichita, grandchildren, Jake Olson and Leah Metzger of Augusta, Austin and Dalton Evenson of Eureka, Autumn and Ryan Moore of Yukon, Oklahoma, Sierra Moore of Anadarko, Oklahoma, one great-granddaughter, and his mother and father-in-law Alice and Earle Kiser of Yukon, Oklahoma.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 11, 2003. at the Upper Fall River Cemetery with Pastor Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating.
A memorial has been established in his name to the Greenwood County Rural Fire Department – Eureka Lake Division. Contributions may be sent in care of the Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas 67045 which was in charge of service arrangements.
