Lowell Gene Parker of El Dorado, died on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at his home in El Dorado, at the age of 78.

He was born on September 18, 1935, in Eufaula, Oklahoma, the son of J.B. and Cleo (Bailey) Parker. He was raised in Eufaula and graduated from high school there. While in high school, he joined the National Guard. On August 25, 1955, Lowell was united in marriage to Faye Justice in Eufaula.

Lowell operated a service station in Pittsburg until 1965, when he joined the Kansas Highway Patrol. He retired in 1976. He later worked as a safety inspector for oil companies in Kansas. In 1987, he began serving Greenwood County as Undersheriff and was elected to Sheriff in 1989, and held that position until 2001. Lowell and Faye moved to El Dorado in 2005.

He was a member of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church, and the Kansas Peace Officers Association.

He is survived by his wife, Faye of the home; daughter, Cheryl Parker and spouse, Ashley of El Dorado; daughter, Toni Parker of Derby; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren: Michael Allen and wife, Lesalee and their children, Mikey, and Hannah; Misti Valentine and husband, Nicholas and their children, Carter, and Lillian; Matthew Allen and wife, Jessica and their children, Kylee, Gavin, and Savanna; and Kaeylynn Mitchell; and three sisters, Barbara Powell of Muskogee, Oklahoma; Janice Herbeck of Muskogee, Oklahoma; and Suzy Nodine of Muskogee, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one daughter, Gayla Jean Parker.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Greenwood Cemetery, in Eureka. Visitation hours are from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., Friday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Susan B. Allen Cancer Center. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
