Louise Weathers of Eureka, died on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, at the age of 96.
She was born on February 9, 1926, in Eureka, the daughter of Charles William and Hilda (Whitehead) Rosenbaugh. She was born in her aunt and uncle’s home and returned home to a tent on Teter Hill, where her father was a tool dresser in the oilfield. The family soon moved to a farm where she spent most of her childhood, attending school at District 7. Her high school years she attended both Eureka and Hamilton High Schools. Her first job was as a waitress in several different restaurants, before she went to work at Beech Aircraft in Wichita during World War II as a riveter. Here she met her lifetime best friend.
On February 27, 1942, Louise was united in marriage to Richard Henry Gordon. To this union one daughter was born. She spent this time raising the love of her life – her daughter Ann. After fifteen years of farm life, Louise went back to restaurant work which she truly enjoyed, along with working at the Tyson Chicken Plant until it closed. Richard preceded her in death on June 16, 1961. She then went to work for Mid-CAP where she retired after fifteen years. On September 15, 1962, Louise was united in marriage to Ira Leonard “Ike” Weathers, in Eureka, and they shared a wonderful 47 years fishing and working together until his passing in 2004. Louise loved to crochet, read, and fish, along with having four lifetime pets.
Louise is survived by her daughter, Ann Johnston of Eureka; 2 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren; and many close cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved Ike; and her wonderful son-in-law, Phil Johnston.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, December 9, 2022, at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka with Rev. Linda Pope of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka. Visitation hours are set from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Kansas Humane Society. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, PO Box 595, Eureka KS 67045, which is overseeing arrangements. Condolences may be left for the family online, at koupfunerals.com.
