Lida Rose Lilley-Parks, of Eureka, Kansas died on August 10, 2005, at Medicalodge of Eureka at the age of 85.
Lida Rose was born on September 1, 1919, to Guy Gilbert and Irma Bell (Knapp) (Rader) Lilley on the Lilley Farm 7 miles north of Eureka, Kansas. She attended school in Piedmont, graduating high school in 1936, at 16 years old. She graduated from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas in December of 1944.
Lida Rose and Paul Howard Parks of Eureka, Kansas were married June 27, 1942, in Yates Center, Kansas. Paul enlisted in July 1942, so Lida Rose taught in rural schools and attended college. After graduation she went to Long Beach, California with her dad to teach school. In 1945, after Paul’s discharge, Lida Rose and Paul returned to Eureka and went into business with Paul’s father. She helped with the book work and was a housewife. They bought the business when Paul’s father retired in the early 1960’s. When her children were older she went back to work as a substitute teacher. She retired in 1995.
She was member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Hospital Auxiliary Supporting Member, Entre Nous, Cartell, Coterie, Non Hoyle and Birthday Club.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Brenda Parks of El Dorado, Kansas; her daughter and son-in-law, Sharyl and Paul Riley of Brighton, Colorado; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Dale Rader and Charles Calvin Lilley and her husband Paul.
Memorial services were held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 13, 2005, at the First United Methodist Church of Eureka with Reverend Diana Hill officiating.
A memorial has been established in her name to the Eureka Carnegie Library. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
