Letha Marjorie Stice of Eureka, died on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at Eureka Nursing Center, in Eureka, at the age of 78.
She was born on April 21, 1930, in Fall River, the daughter of Richard Lee and Florence Belle (Ghramm) Starkey. The family moved to Eureka, when Letha was still young. She was raised in Eureka, and graduated from Eureka High School. In April of 1950 she was united in marriage to Austin Powell in Eureka; this marriage later ended in divorce. To this union, three children were born.
After her training as a nurse’s aide, Letha worked for the Greenwood County Hospital for 28 years, until her retirement. On August 6, 1978, Letha was united in marriage to Donald L. Stice in Eureka, where they made their home. Don and Letha took many trips on Don’s motorcycle all over the country, until her hip injury forced them to stop.
Letha was a member of the Church of God.
She is survived by her husband, Don; two sons, S. David Powell of Emporia; and Michael Powell of Abilene; and one daughter, Sherrill Powell of Eureka; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Bill Starkey of El Dorado; and one sister, Maxine Fox of Madison. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, August 29, 2008 at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Pastor Larry Moore of the Prince of Peace officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, at the funeral home.
