Leota June Vanhoozier, of Eureka, Kansas, died at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka on Wednesday, January 14, 2004, at the age of 67.
She was born in Cherryvale, Kansas on March 8, 1936, the daughter of Tom and Viola (Volmer) Zuck. She was raised in Cherryvale and graduated from Cherryvale High School with the class of 1954. After her schooling she moved to Eureka where she worked as a waitress at the Greenwood Hotel.
On April 9, 1955, Leota was united in marriage to Charles E. “Red” Vanhoozier in Severy, Kansas. They made their home in Eureka until 1957, when the family moved to Baker, Montana. In 1971, they moved to Dueshen, Utah. In 1974, they moved to Douglas, Wyoming. Then in 1992 they returned to Eureka.
Leota was a homemaker, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and attended the Church of Christ in Eureka.
She is survived by her husband, Red, of the home; two sons, David Vanhoozier of Dallas, Texas, and Daniel Vanhoozier of Phoenix, Arizona; five grandchildren; five brothers, Gerald Zuck of Cherryvale, Loren Zuck of Somerdale, New Jersey, Bill Zuck and Lewis Zuck both of Omaha Nebraska, Darrell Russell of Lincoln, Nebraska; one sister, Cheryl Johnson of Omaha, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Mark, one brother, and two sisters.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, January 16, 2004, in Greenwood Cemetery with Pastor Gerald Zuck of the Cherryvale Christian Church officiating.
