Leota Beryl Griffith, of Eureka, died at Via-Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita on Thursday, May 20, 2004, at the age of 86.
She was born in Spokane, Washington on January 24, 1918, the daughter of Fermer and Ethel (Jones) Conner. Beryl was raised in Greenwood County, Kansas and attended rural grade school and Reece High School, graduating with the class of 1935.
On November 30, 1935, she was united in marriage to James Griffith in Wellington, Kansas. After their marriage they moved throughout Greenwood County with James’ job, and spent many years in the Burkett community. In 1956, the family moved to Eureka where Beryl worked for the Eureka Greenhouse. In 1966, they moved to Moore, Oklahoma where she worked at the Moore Public Library. James preceded her in death on December 12, 1978. She then moved to the Leon/Augusta area to be near her sister. In 1981, she returned to Eureka.
Beryl was a member of the Greenwood County Hospital Auxiliary and the First United Methodist Church, of which she belonged to several groups.
She is survived by one daughter, Beth Hart of Eureka, two grandchildren, and two sisters, Marlys Morgan of Augusta and Delores Roberts of Leesburg, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Clark Griffith, two brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, May 24, 2004, at the Koup Family Funeral Home with Reverend Diana Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in her name to the First United Methodist Church. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
