Lendon D. “Slim” Griffitts of Eureka, died on February 17, 2008, at Medicalodge of Eureka at the age of 89.
Slim was born on November 3, 1918 in Elbing, Kansas the son of Thomas Ian and Elizabeth Ada (Mitchell) Griffitts. He lived in the Haysville and Wichita area until he was sixteen when the family moved to the Eureka. After his schooling he farmed before joining the United States Army during WWII serving his country with honor and dignity. After the war he started his own plumbing and heating business.
On July 25, 1936 he married Lucy Marie Wood in Climax, Kansas. They made their home in Eureka.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Slim was a life member of the American Legion Post 50 and a life member of the VFW Post 2712. He was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Fidelity Lodge #106 AF and Am Chapter Commander and York Rite Bodies of El Dorado.
He is survived by his son, Jim Griffitts of Abilene, Texas and daughter Carol Barnes of Eureka; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lucy, two daughters, Betty Bahr and Mary Husak; two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, February 21, at Koup Family Funeral Home, with the Reverend Diana Hill officiating. Inturment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
