Lawrence Dwight “Poke” Brown of Eureka, died on Thursday, January 8, 2015, at his home in Eureka, at the age of 79.

He was born on February 2, 1935, in Virgil, the son of Milton Forrest and Jeanette Belle (Brown) Brown. He was raised in Hamilton and graduated from Hamilton High School. He married Patty Sue Poe in 1957, and had four children whom were raised in East El Dorado. This marriage later ended in divorce. Poke worked for United Cementing in El Dorado several years, and later worked for Kansas Gas & Electric Company in El Dorado. He also owned his insulation company, which was named the Triple B Insulation after his three sons. Later the family moved to Leon. LD later returned to the Eureka area. After his retirement, he owned his own semi-truck and leased out to Frank Bills Trucking. On July 24, 2003, he was united in marriage to Carolyon Ruth Keene in Laramie, Wyoming. They made their home on the family land near Eureka.

Poke was a member of the Hamilton Baptist Church and Climax Masonic Lodge #411.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyon of the home; three children, Larry D. Brown of Rosalia; Stacey Lynn Brown of Goddard; and Michael Dewayne Brown of Bristow, Virginia; two step-children, Lutrecia Callier of Iola; and Kris Callier of Haysville; eight grandchildren, six step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sixteen step-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Les Brown of Pratt. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Clifford Brown; and sister, Bernice Waite.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, January 12, 2015 at Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka with Pastor John Craighead of Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Janesville Cemetery. Visitation hours are set from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Climax Masonic Lodge #411. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
