Laura Mae McCormack of Climax, died on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at the Eureka Nursing Center, in Eureka at the age of 90.
She was born on July 22, 1920, in Severy, the daughter of Roy and Jessie (Templeton) Wellman. She was raised in the Severy area and graduated from Severy High School with the class of 1938. On December 30, 1939, Laura Mae was united in marriage to Virgil Rex McCormack in El Dorado. They made their home in Moran. In 1944, the family moved to Climax and has lived in the Climax area since.
Laura Mae was a member of the Golden Star Chapter #173 of Yates Center, the Delia Croft Order of the Easter Star of Climax, Grand Chaplain of Grand Chapter of Kansas in 1962, the United Methodist Women, the Climax Goodwill Club, the Greenwood County Cancer Board, on which she was a founding member in bringing the Relay for Life to Greenwood County, and the Climax United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Virgil of the home; one son, Harold McCormack of Climax; one daughter, Evelyn Hendrickson of Wichita; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 19, 2011, at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Pastor Kevin Lawrence of the Climax United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Climax United Methodist Church Building Fund. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
