Larry Ray “Jake” Schlotterbeck of Hamilton, died on Sunday, August 16, 2015 at his home near Hamilton, at the age of 75.
He was born January 25, 1940, in Neal, Kansas the son of Ira Lloyd and Irene Winona (Sherman) Schlotterbeck. He was raised in the Hamilton area, attending 24 schoolhouse and graduating from Hamilton High School. He then attended Emporia State University, in Emporia, Kansas.
On May 10, 1959, Jake was united in marriage to Donna E. Maley in Hamilton, where they made their home. To this union, three children were born. This marriage later ended in divorce. He worked in the oil fields until 1966, then went to work at Didde/Glaser in Emporia. In the mid 1970’s he opened Quad Tool Machine Shop in Americus. In 1981, he moved to Hamilton where he and Donna opened a machine shop with his brother Beaner and wife, Barbie. On June 24, 2001, Jake was united in marriage to Katharine Ilene McBeth in Hamilton, where they made their home.
He was a former member of the Masons and former Hamilton City Council member.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy of the home; daughter, Linda Williams and significant other, Jim Thompson of Hamilton; sons, William Ray Schlotterbeck of Hamilton, and significant other, Sheila McDaniel of Madison; and Ronald Roy Schlotterbeck of Hamilton; and step-son, Wesley Key of Hamilton; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard Schlotterbeck and wife, Connie of Eureka; and one sister, Neva Linden of Braman, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Beaner, and Wilbur; and one brother-in-law, Fred Linden.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka with Reverend Kenneth Baker of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka officiating. Interment will follow at Janesville Cemetery. Visitation hours are set from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the KU Medical Center or to the CJ Foundation for SIDS. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
