L Ray Sloan, of Hamilton, died on Saturday, July 30, 2005, at the Greenwood County Hospital at the age of 79.

She was born in Nowata, Oklahoma on December 7, 1925, the daughter of Lloyd and Josie (Deboard) Griffin. L Ray was raised in Sedan, Kansas and graduated from Sedan High School with the class of 1945. She then attended Pittsburg State University and received Teacher’s Normal Training. She then taught school for one year in Hale, Kansas.

On September 8, 1946, she was united in marriage to Harold “John” Sloan in Independence, Kansas. After their marriage they made their home in the Hamilton area. L Ray worked for the O.A. Sutton Company in Wichita for seven years and was a homemaker. John preceded her in death on March 19, 1999.

She is survived by one son, Wesley Sloan of Eureka, one daughter, Barbara Schlotterbeck of Hamilton, two grandchildren, six brothers, Eugene Walker, Leo Walker, Carl Walker, and Robert Walker all of Sedan, Jerry Walker of Cedar Vale, and Lloyd Griffin Jr. of Junction, Texas, four sisters, Dorothy Kerr and Reva Ulum both of Sedan, Jeanette Tomlin of Anthony, and Linda Thompson of Wichita. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Thomas Sloan, one brother, and one sister, Norma Griffin.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 3, 2005, at Koup Family Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Janesville Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in her name to the Sloan College Scholarship Fund. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas 67045
