Kenneth Duane Alford, of Eureka, died at the Greenwood County Hospital on Sunday, November 28, 2004, at the age of 70.
He was born on December 3, 1933, in Peru, Kansas, the son of Ralph and Dorothy (Chrisman) Alford. Kenneth was raised in Coffeyville, Kansas and attended school there, graduating from Coffeyville High School with the class of 1951.
On September 18, 1952, he was united in marriage to Mary Dye in Sedan, Kansas. They made their home in Sedan where Kenneth worked for the Rural Electric Association and Johnson’s Feed Store. On May 1, 1954, the family moved to Eureka and Kenneth began his career with the Kansas Department of Transportation, first in the engineering department and later as the Maintenance Supervisor. He retired on June 1, 1994 with over forty years of service.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Mary of the home, three sons and daughters-in-law, Rocky and Debbie Alford of Garnett, Kansas, Joe and Silvia Alford of Xanten-Marianbaum, Germany, and Jack and Cyndi Alford of Eureka, two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Ken Plew of Mulvane, Kansas, and Rhonda and Steve Bartel of Mulvane, Kansas, twelve grandchildren, Diana Alford, Travis Alford, Daniel Alford, Megan Bartel, Katrina Alford, Jennifer Bursky, Celisa Alford, Miranda Bartel, Alex Plew, Sean Alford, Wade Bartel, and Mathew Alford, two great-grandchildren, Lukas Alford and Caden Bartel, one brother, Gerald Alford of Independence, Kansas and two sisters Phyllis Alford and Janet Alford both of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one grandson, Eric Plew.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, December 2, 2004, at Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka, with Pastor Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
