Keith D. Griffiths, of Eureka, died on Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado, Kansas at the age of 61.

He was born on September 8, 1942, in Neal, Kansas, the son of James and Opal (Megli) Griffith. He was raised in the Neal area, and attended school in the Fancy, Neal and Tonovay areas. In 1959, he enlisted into the United States Army and served during the Vietnam conflict. After serving his country for eight years, he reenlisted into the United States Air Force, becoming a Medic, and served his country with dignity and honor until he retired from the Air Force in 1982. He later went to work for the Kansas Correctional Facility, where he spent 11 years before retiring in 2000.

In 1963, Keith was united in marriage to Judith Swaverly. Two children were born from this union. The marriage later ended in divorce. On December 30, 2002, he was united in marriage to Betty Matlock in Eureka, Kansas. They made their home in Eureka.

He is survived by his wife Betty, one son Keith Duane Griffiths Jr. of Woodbury, N.J.; two step-sons, Jess E. Wheat of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Marvin E. Wheat II of Paola, Kansas; one daughter, Lisa Ordukaya of Fort Bragg, North Carolina; two step-daughters, Barbara L. Starr of Lawrence, Kansas, and Rosann Knight of Hamilton, Kansas; five brothers, James of Everett, Washington, Leo of Newton, Kansas, Edgar of Eureka, Kansas, Robert of Glendale, Arizona, Richard of Topeka, Kansas; five sisters, Hazel Herold, of Neal, Kansas, Ruby Herman of Washington, North Carolina, Dorothy Gutman of Eureka, Kansas, Sharon Beeman of Hamilton, Kansas, Mary Ann Thornton of Eureka, Kansas; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Gerald Griffith and three uncles.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M., Saturday, July 17, 2004 at the New Life Assembly of God with Pastor Chris Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Janesville Cemetery, Hamilton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the New Life Assembly of God. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas 67045.
