Kathy Irene Higbee, died at her residence in Eureka, Kansas on Friday, November 25, 2005, at the age of 58.
She was born in Eureka on September 6, 1947, the daughter of Virgil Harold and Doris Marguerite (Little) Stever. Kathy was raised in Eureka and graduated from Eureka High School with the class of 1965. She then attended Wichita Business College in Wichita, Kansas.
On November 8, 1967, Kathy was united in marriage to William Raymond Higbee. They made their home in Eureka, where Kathy worked for City Drug. In the early 1970’s, she and William moved to Guymon, Oklahoma, where Kathy worked in the restaurant business. In the mid 1970’s, they moved to Pratt, Kansas, where Kathy continued in the restaurant business before starting her career at the Pratt Hospital as a billing clerk.
On June 13, 1996, William preceded her in death. Kathy then returned to school at Pratt Community College and later received her Associates Degree. In March of 1998, she moved back to Eureka and worked in the copy center at Eureka Junior/Senior High School, before taking a position at Home Bank and Trust and later at Community National Bank.
Kathy was a member of the Neal Evangelical Free Church and Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
She is survived by two brothers, James Stever of Emporia, and Rick Stever of Eureka, and six sisters, Shirley Nicholson of Chase, Kansas, Jeanne Burtin of Eureka, Connie Hayes of Emporia, Judy Cates of Emporia, Sally Gulick of Moran, and Nancy Brecheisen of Hartford, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother, Jerry Stever.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., on Tuesday, November 29, 2005, at Koup Family Funeral Home, with Pastor Larry Evans of the Neal Evangelical Free Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
