Junior LeRoy Smith of Hamilton, Kansas, died on March 12, 2006 at the Medical Lodge of Eureka, Kansas at the age of 82.
He was born on September 9, 1923 in Parker, Kansas the son of Roy and Mary (Tout) Smith. He was raised in Parker and attended local schools. After his schooling he worked on the family farm. Junior later joined the United States Army where he served his country with honor and dignity during World War II. He lived in various communities in Kansas working with the oil fields. He moved to Hamilton, Kansas in 1957 where he worked for Long Drilling for 35 years, retiring in 1996.
Junior loved baseball, playing and coaching the game. He also liked coon hunting.
On September 30, 1955 he married Lorean French in LeRoy, Kansas. To this union four children were born. She preceded him in death on June 30, 2001.
He is survived by three sons, Dennis Smith, Roger Smith and Randy Smith all of Hamilton, Kansas; one daughter Rhonda Taylor of Eureka; six grandchildren; brother Melvin Smith of Independence, Missouri; three sisters, Evelyn Clearwater of Topeka, Kansas, Rosie Rues of Bonner Springs, Kansas and Mary Sue Zimmerman of Paola, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at Koup Family Funeral Home with Pastor Alan Hunter officiating. Viewing will be from 9-5 on Tuesday. Interment will follow at Janesville Cemetery in Hamilton, Kansas.
Memorials have been established in his name to Medicalodge of Eureka and Hamilton Rec. Commission of Hamilton, Kansas.
