Josephine “Marie” French, of Wichita, and formerly of Eureka, died on Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at Life Care Center of Andover in Andover at the age of 83.
She was born on March 2, 1927, in the Fairview community near Piedmont, the daughter of Thomas Carl and Edith Myrtle (Churchman) Adsmond. Marie attended school in the Ivanpah rural school district, later moved to Reece and Virgil, and graduated from Hamilton. Upon graduation, she moved to Wichita, where she worked as a clerk for Kress Department Store.
On March 1, 1946, Marie was united in marriage to Marvin Lee “Sonny” French, who she met at a school Christmas program. They celebrated 64 years of marriage. Marie was a homemaker and co-owner and bookkeeper of M&M Pump and Supply in Ness City, and Cheyenne Wells, Colorado. She retired in 1988 to Toronto, later moving to Eureka, then Wichita in 2008.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin of the home; son, Joe French of Augusta; daughter, Leslie Lane of Wichita; son, Patrick and wife, Connie French of Bakersfield, California; son, Jeffrey French of Wichita; and son, Jonathan and wife, Lynett French of Wichita; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Francis “Wilma” French of Great Bend; and brother, Walter Darrel Adsmond of Enumclaw, Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Roy Thomas “Buddy” Adsmond.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 19, 2011, at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Mr. Jayme A. Koup officiating. Inurnment will follow at Janesville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the National Kidney Foundation. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
