John Edward Yost, of Eureka, died July 23, 2003, at his residence at the age of 85.
He was born in Stockton, Missouri on December 2, 1917, the son of John Henry and Bessie Mary (Hayward) Yost. The family lived in Stockton until they moved to Eureka in 1928. John joined the United States Navy during World War II and served his country with honor and dignity. After his discharge, he settled in Oxnard, California and worked as a supervisor for General Telephone.
On November 23, 1947, John was united in marriage to Pauline Francis Wilson in Lindsey, California. The family lived in Oxnard until John’s retirement in 1973, when the family moved back to Eureka. On August 5, 2001 Pauline preceded him in death.
He was survived by one son, Delbert Reed, of Simi Valley, California; one daughter, Rosemary Reed, of Seattle, Washington; three brothers, Joe Yost of Rosalia, Roy Yost of Madison, and Robert Yost of Wichita; one sister, Mary Mann of Eureka; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife.
Services were held on Monday, August 4, 2003, at the Eureka Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
