John “Clifford” Wescott, of Eureka, died at the Via Christi-St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita on Saturday, November 30, 2002, at the age of 79.

He was born in Madison, Kansas on May 21, 1923, the son of Charles Earl and Velma (Baysinger) Wescott. John was raised in northern Greenwood County and attended school in Madison. After his schooling he entered the United States Navy and served his country during World War II. Upon his discharge he began his career at The Boeing Company in Wichita. In 1961 he retired and started a real estate business in Wichita, which served Sedgwick and Butler counties. In the late 1980’s, John retired for a second time. He moved to Eureka in 1994 and drove the activity bus for U.S.D. # 389 until his death.

John was a member of the Albert Pike Masonic Lodge #303 of Wichita, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Valley of Wichita Orient of Kansas, Midian Shrine, and V.F.W. Post #112 of Wichita.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys of the home, three sons, Kenneth L. Wescott of Overland Park, Kansas and Venice, Florida, Daryl W. Wescott of Wellington, and John C. Wescott II of Wichita, three step-daughters, Pat Richardson of Independence, Kansas, Ruth Bagby of Augusta, and Dee Sumner of Topeka, numerous grandchildren, one brother, Bill Wescott of St. John, Kansas, and five sisters, Mary McCullough of Mulvane, Helen Bandy of Rogers, Arkansas, Doris Davis of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Velva McCullough and Fern Silva both of Wichita. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Donald L. Wescott, and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at the Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka, with Pastor Larry Evans of the Neal Evangelical Free Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in his name to the Neal Evangelical Free Church. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas 67045.
