John Lowell Grundy, of Eureka, died on Sunday, October 3, 2004, at the age of 91.
He was born on January 10, 1913, to Lowell Benjamin and Alma (Nitsche) Grundy in rural Howard, Kansas. The family moved to Climax where John attended school and graduated from Climax High School.
John was united in marriage to Jean Eloise Colyer on August 17, 1937, in El Dorado, Kansas.
John’s desire to raise cattle, kept him motivated and active at farming and ranching, west of Climax, throughout his life until his retirement six years ago. John served on the Climax School Board, the County ASCS Committee, and was a member of the Co-op Board at Severy, Kansas. John was an honored, 60 year brother of the Masonic Lodge #411in Climax, Kansas. John and Jean have been members of ANDRIAN Chapter 93 order of the Eastern Star in El Dorado, for 50 years.
He is survived by his wife, Jean of Eureka; brothers, Herman of Eureka; Eugene of Albuquerque, N.M.; and Victor of San Jose, Ca.; sisters, Phyllis Broddle of Derby, Ks.; and Betty Meadows of Sedan, Ks.; and a cousin, Charles Longfellow of Climax, his lifelong partner in labor; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 6, 2004, at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka, with Reverend Don Harper of the United Methodist Church of Howard officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery.
