Joan Chastain of Eureka, died on Friday, August 20, 2010, at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, at the age of 75.
She was born on June 30, 1935, in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of Thannie “Evelyn” Dye. She was raised in Fall River area and attended Climax High School. On February 14, 1952, Joan was united in marriage to Irl Chastain. They made their home in Eureka.
Joan at first worked as a secretary and hauled oil field motors to Coffeyville. Later the family moved around Kansas with Irl’s work, but still kept their home in Eureka. Joan was active at the Greenwood County Fair, usually having submissions in many categories.
She is survived by her husband, Irl of the home; one son, Irl Chastain of Eureka; one daughter, Debbie Vinson of Eureka; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Barbara Olson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; and Linda Bellew of Grand Island, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 23, 2010, at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Youth Minister Adam Waters of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
The family has requested that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
