Jessie Joan Cox of Eureka, Kansas died on September 16, 2007 at the Greenwood County Hospital at the age of 73.

She was born on July 13, 1934 in El Dorado, Kansas the daughter of Carl S. and Ruth (Bilson) Colvin. The family moved around the east coast while her dad was working on the pipeline. When she was older the family moved to Eureka and she graduated from Eureka High School. She later went to Emporia State University where she got her Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism. Joan was a reporter for the Emporia Gazette. She also worked for the police department as a dispatcher. In the early 70’s she was a secretary for the EMS. She retired in 1995 after 25 years of service.

On November 25, 1962 she was united in marriage to Virgil Cox in Eureka, Kansas where they made their home.

She was a member of the Christian and Congregational Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband, Virgil; son, Carl F. “C.F.” Cox of Eureka, Kansas; and daughter, Karen Vinson of Eureka, Kansas; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son Joseph and step-son David.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 21, 2007, at Koup Family Funeral Home with Reverend Rhonda Almond officiating. Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in her name to the Midian Shrine Plane of Mercy and the Christian and Congregational Church. Memorials may be sent in care of the funeral home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas 67045.
