Jesse Acencion Bonilla, of Wichita, died at the Veterans Administration Hospital on Tuesday October 29, 2002, at the age of 79.
He was born in Chanute, Kansas on August 15, 1923, the son of Luciano and Gabriela (Quitanilla) Bonilla. He was raised in Chanute and attended schools there.
At the age of 17, Jesse enlisted in the United States Army and served with the Red Bull 34th Infantry Division during World War II. He was discharged from the Army in 1945, and entered the United States Air Force in 1946. In 1965, he retired from the Air Force with the rank of Sergeant.
On June 6, 1970, Jesse was united in marriage to Irene A. Arguelles in Eureka, Kansas. They have made their home in Wichita.
He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Wichita, the American Legion, V.F.W., D.A.V., and the Sergeant's Association.
Jesse is survived by his wife, Irene of the home; one son, J.G. Bonilla; and one daughter, Melinda Bonilla, both of California; and one brother, Ray Bonilla of Chanute, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and five sisters.
Rosary recitation was held at 9:30 A.M., Saturday, November 2, 2002, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eureka, Kansas with the Mass of Christian Burial following at 10:00A.M. Interment took place in the Greenwood Cemetery following the mass.
A memorial has been established in his name with the St. Margaret-Mary Catholic Church Floor Fund. Contributions may be sent in care of the Koup Family Funeral Home, P O Box 595, Eureka, Kansas 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
