Jennie Irene Morgan, of Eureka, died on February 26, 2006, at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, Kansas at the age of 87.
She was born on June 17, 1918, in Greenwood County, Kansas, the daughter of James and Francis Eliza (Atwood) Stumbaugh. She was raised in Greenwood County until age 9, when the family moved to West Plains, Missouri in a covered wagon.
On February 26, 1936, she married Edward Everett Billups. To this union, three children were born; a son, James Franklin, and daughters, Francis Elizabeth and Cleola Joyce. He preceded her in death on August 7, 1945. Irene later married Ernest Tabor in 1946, the marriage was later dissolved. In 1952, Irene moved to back to Kansas so her brother could help her raise the children. On June 28, 1958, Irene married George Morgan and acquired a step-son George Thomas and step-daughters, Sherry Lynn and Patrisha making the six children she had always wanted and whom she loved very much.
Irene worked most of her life as a waitress, in nursing homes and private duty nurse. She would sell Avon and other such products on the side to help support the family. Irene was a very caring and loving person. She was always there for anyone in need. She made birthdays and Christmas very special even on a very limited budget. She liked reading the bible, playing cards, and visiting on the phone, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
She was a member of the Christian Church.
Irene is survived by her sons and daughters-in law, James and Mary Billups of Viola, Kansas; George and Carol Crandall of Salina, Kansas; daughters and sons-in law, Elizabeth Gritz of Augusta, Kansas; Cleola and Kenny Ankerholz of Eureka, Kansas; Sherry Alden of Solomon, Kansas, Pat and Gary Shaft of McPherson, Kansas; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three husbands, twelve brothers and sisters. She also leaves behind many care-givers, nurses and a very special doctor and his wife. Irene adopted them all into her life.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka with Pastor Don Stice of the Church of God officiating. Interment will follow in Elk Fall Cemetery, in Elk Falls, Kansas.
