Jean Eloise Grundy of Eureka, died Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Wesley Woodlawn Hospital, in Wichita, at the age of 99.
Jean was born March 15, 1916, in Piedmont, the daughter of Harold W. and Addie (Rhea) Colyer. She lived in rural Piedmont and attended Piedmont Grade School and graduated from Piedmont High School as Valedictorian. She then attended Emporia State College completing a bachelor’s degree in education in 1966. On August 17, 1937, she was united in marriage to John Lowell Grundy in El Dorado. They made their home in Climax.
She was a school teacher for thirty-three years, all around Greenwood County. Jean was a member of the Climax United Methodist Church where she was also the organist, a member of the Order of Eastern Star Climax Lodge #387 and Eureka Lodge #56, Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Sorosis Study Club.
She is survived by one sister, Hope Eisenbach, and several nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; two siblings, brother Richard R. Colyer; and sister, Margaret Gragg.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, March 18, 2016, at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka, with Pastor Kevin Lawrence of the Climax United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation hours are set from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, at the funeral home.
