Janis Lynn (Swanson) Spillman of Eureka, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on August 13, 2008, at her home, after a valiant struggle with cancer, at the age of 60.
She was born on September 12, 1947, in Emporia, the daughter of John Albin and Lorrine (Armstrong) Swanson. She was raised in the Emporia area and attended local schools. She graduated from Flint Hills Vo-Tech as an LPN. She later received her Bachelors Degree in Nursing from Butler County Community College.
On November 19, 1966, she was united in marriage to Jim Spillman in Emporia, Kansas. They lived in various places including Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas before settling in Eureka.
Janis was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka.
She is survived by her husband, Jim of the home; daughter, Christina Harrison of Eureka; two grandchildren; stepfather, Fred Nilges of Emporia; and sister, June Delgado of Emporia. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Clayton “Randy” Swanson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, August 15, 2008, at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Reverend Diana Hill of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Number 8 Cemetery, in Madison.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Hospice Care of Kansas or to Assistance in Health, a division of Cancer Treatment Center of America. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
