Janice Irene Wells, of El Dorado, formerly of Piedmont, died Saturday, January 4, 2020, at LakePoint Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of El Dorado, at the age of 78.
Janice was born August 28, 1941, in Jefferson City, Missouri, the daughter of Willis and Ruby (Harbour) Atherton. She was raised in Wichita, and graduated from Wichita West High School with the Class of 1959. Following graduation Janice attended Wichita State University. She soon married, and moved frequently, working several jobs. She was blessed with three children. In 1985, Janice and her children settled in Piedmont, where she went to work at Ervin’s Convenience Store and eventually met Lee Riggs, who was the love of her life. Janice loved her children and grandchildren, her animals, auctions, and collecting antiques.
She is survived by her three children: Jeffrey Allen and wife, Patty Wells of Killeen, Texas; Jenifer Anne VanHorn of Wichita; and Josh Evan and wife, Larissa Wells of Eureka; eleven grandchildren: Holly VanHorn, Michael Wells, Tori VanHorn, Alyssa Wells, Kimberly Betts, Traevor McPherson, Tanner Wells, Taylor Wells, Tyler Wells, Tyrel Wells, and Trayce Wells; and two great-grandchildren: Rhylie and Raylan Wells; and her significant other, Lee Riggs. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 10, 2020 at Farm Ridge Cemetery, Elk City, with Mr. Craig Olson of Eureka, officiating. Visitation hours are set from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, at the funeral home. Cards may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O.
