Jane Hulda Johnson, of Eureka, died on Sunday, September 18, 2005 at her home in Eureka, at the age of 59.
She was born on April 30, 1946, the daughter of Orvil C. and Minnie Daisy (Ely) Phillips. She was raised in Emporia and graduated from Emporia High School with the class of 1964. On October 7, 1968, Jane was united in marriage to Bill Johnson, in Eureka. Jane worked for various places and for a time, traveled with Bill with the carnival. The family lived in West Plains, Missouri for six years, but lived in Eureka for a total of 38 years.
Jane was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses of Eureka.
She is survived by her husband, J.W. “Bill” Johnson; two sons, Johnny Johnson, Jr. of Eureka; and Mark A. Johnson of El Dorado; one brother, Elwin C. Phillips of Chanute; and three sisters, Minnie M. Millsap of Neodesha; Betty L. Woodman of Oklahoma; and Lula Mae Day of Pasadena, Texas. She was preceded in death by one son, Homer Joe Applegate; one brother, William H. Phillips; and one sister, Virginia R. Brown.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, September 22, 2005 at Lena Valley Cemetery, near Lamont, with Mr. Jamie Freed officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045.
