James Henry Yost died at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital, in Lawrence, Kansas, on Thursday, October 30, 2003, at the age of 84.
He was born in Stockton, Missouri on January 15, 1919, the son of James Arthur and Melinda Jane (Belcher) Yost. Jim was raised in Eureka and attended Eureka schools, graduating from Eureka High School with the class of 1937. After his schooling he worked for the J.C. Penney’s retail store before entering the United States Army. He served his country with honor and distinction during World War II. Upon his discharge he returned to Eureka and worked for Robe Hardware.
On July 8, 1951 he was united in marriage to Charlotte “Louise” Kerwin in Eureka. They made their home in Eureka. In the mid 1950’s Jim began his career with the United States Postal Service. He retired from the post office in 1983, as Supervisor of Postal Operations. He then worked for Eureka Federal Savings Bank, retiring from there in 1987.
Jim was a member of the Christian-Congregational Church, VFW Post #2712, American Legion Post #50, and Fidelity Lodge #106.
He is survived by his wife, Louise of the home, one daughter Maggie Osborn of Lawrence, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and one sister, Emily Marie Town of Eureka. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Carolyn Louise Winn, one brother, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, November 3, 2003, at the Koup Family Funeral Home, with Pastor Bill Coburn of the Christian-Congregational Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
