James Albert Watson, of Eureka passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, at the age of 93.
He was born November 9, 1914, in Wayside, Kansas, the son of John and Anna (Pittman) Watson. Jim was raised in rural Montgomery and Chautauqua Counties and attended Wayside and Lone Cherry Schools.
On October 12, 1935, he was united in marriage to Rosa E. Atkinson in Independence. They made their home in rural Chautauqua and Montgomery Counties before moving to rural Eureka in 1983. They were involved in farming and ranching. As stewards of the land, they received the Montgomery County Banker Award for their efforts in soil conservation. Jim was a member of the Christian & Congregational Church of Eureka.
He is survived by four sons, John L. Watson of Hays, Kansas; James R. Watson of Niotaze, Kansas; Mark C. Watson of Peru, Kansas; and Bill D. Watson of Eureka, Kansas; one sister, Marlene Smith of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers, and one grandchild.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 2:00 P.M., December 14, 2007 at Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka with Reverend Rhonda K. Almond of the Christian & Congregational Church officiating.
A memorial has been established in his name to the Christian & Congregational Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
