James Lee Smith of Wichita, formerly of Eureka, died on December 21, 2012 at AMG Hospital in Wichita at the age of 53.

James was born in Eureka, Kansas, on April 14, 1959 the son of Harold and Mary (Lang) Smith. He was raised in Eureka and graduated from Eureka High School. After his schooling, he attended Emporia State University getting his associates degree. After college he worked at various jobs including working at Ranch Aid, and at a care home for mentally challenged boys. James worked most often as a welder.

While living in Emporia he worked at IBP and as a disc jockey. He lived in various places around Kansas, including Scott City, Hutchinson and Emporia. For a few years he lived in Nebraska with his brother, and sister-in-law.

He is survived by his brother, Donald and wife, Janet of Potwin; nephews, Brent Smith of Augusta, and Daniel Smith of Wichita. He was preceded in death by his parents.
