James Arden “Bill” McKenzie, of Eureka, died on Saturday, September 20, 2008, at Eureka Nursing Center, in Eureka, at the age of 88.
He was born on September 7, 1920, in Eureka, the son of William F. and Katherine (Doering) McKenzie. He was raised in Tonovay area and graduated from Tonovay High School. After his schooling, he began a dairy farm and ranch, which he operated until his retirement in the mid-1980’s.
On December 23, 1949, he was united in marriage to Wilma J. Dewey in Iola. She preceded him in death on November 8, 2005.
Bill is survived by two sons, Jay McKenzie of Eureka; and Alex McKenzie of Clever, Missouri; two daughters, Carla Winterscheid of Virgil; and Rhonda Donovan of Medicine Lodge; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Elinor Forcum of Newton; Ruth Holmes of El Dorado; and Alice Smart of Atchison. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, six brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, September 25, 2008 at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka, with Pastor Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Eureka Nursing Center. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
