James Riley Crabtree, of Climax, died at his home on Saturday, March 1, 2008, at the age of 83.
He was born in Moberry, Arkansas on April 11, 1924, the son of Robert Lee and Minnie (Lovitt) Crabtree. He was raised in Arkansas and attended school there. After his schooling he worked as a brick layer in Wichita.
On February 5, 1953, James was united in marriage to Pauline B. Barnes in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They made their home in Wichita.
In the early 1960’s, the family moved to Greenwood County where he worked as a farm hand. In 1968, they moved to Climax and he started his own business, Crabtree General Contracting. James retired in the mid 1970’s. Pauline preceded him in death on February 2, 1995.
He was a member of the Climax Methodist Church.
He is survived by one son, Dale Crabtree of Peabody, Kansas, two daughters, Patricia Callison of California, and Sheila Gehmlich of Climax, eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, one brother, Julian Crabtree of Louisiana, and one sister, Veda Reeves of Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at Greenwood Cemetery.
