Jack Shearer Newby of Eureka died on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Eureka Nursing Center at the age of 76.
Jack was born in Eureka, Kansas on May 5, 1934 the son of Jack and Hazel May (Shearer) Newby. He was raised in Eureka and attended local schools. After graduating he attended K-State getting a bachelor’s degree in business administration. While going to K-State Jack was with the Sigma Nu fraternity. After college Jack worked as a claims adjuster for an insurance company and lived in Missouri and California. Later he went to work for Boeing as a parts stress tester until his retirement. Jack then moved back to Eureka in 2007.
Jack was a member the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by a daughter, Jody Newby; brother, Bill Newby of California; and sister, Mary Dir of Eureka and good friend Gordon “Skip” Wassell. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Greenwood Cemetery with Mr. Jayme Koup officiating. Cremation has been effected. A memorial has been established in his name to the National Rifle Association.
